Marilyn Marie Walner passed away on Saturday, December 13, 2025, in the house that her devoted husband built for her in Puyallup, WA, after a long battle with multiple forms of cancer. She was born in Seattle, WA, to Carl O. and Ella M. Granquist. She graduated from Puyallup High School, attended Western Washington University, and obtained her degree in Forestry upon graduating from the University of Washington.
Education was a lifelong pursuit for Marilyn, as could be seen by her lengthy reading list. She was also a prolific gardener, sewist, knitter, and artist. She and her husband, William, spent many years running their general contracting business. Later, she ran her own business in art display and presentation, contracting with the Tacoma Art Museum, Museum of Glass, and Washington State Arts Commission. She was most proud of her family, though, which she said was "her everything."
Marilyn is survived by her husband, William Walner, and their three daughters Marsha Walner of Puyallup, WA, Emily Walner (William Reiser) of Tacoma, WA, and Jane Clemo (Russell Clemo) and two grandchildren of Gaston, OR. She is also survived by numerous siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Marilyn is preceded in death by her first husband, Donald Cole, and niece Christine Stuermer.
A memorial to celebrate Marilyn will be held in springtime. Please contact the family for details. Guests need only bring their fond memories of Marilyn to share with family and friends.
