Mary Elaine Nelson, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 24, 2025, at her home in Roy, Washington. She was 73 years old.
Born on November 27, 1952, in Tacoma, Washington, to Orien D. and Edith A. Land, Mary grew up surrounded by family and the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest. From an early age, she displayed the cheerful and easygoing spirit that would define her life, effortlessly connecting with others and bringing warmth wherever she went.
On October 31, 1970, in Tacoma, Mary married the love of her life, Raymond E. Nelson. Their marriage spanned 55 joyful years, built on deep love, mutual respect, and shared adventures. Together, they raised three children: Jennifer J. Lane, Raymond E. Nelson II, and David D. Nelson. Mary delighted in her role as grandmother to Hannah, Finnley, and Spencer, cherishing every moment spent with them.
Mary dedicated much of her professional life to enriching the lives of others as an Assisted Living Activity Coordinator. With boundless enthusiasm, she organized bingo games, crafts sessions, and social gatherings that brought joy, laughter, and companionship to residents. Her genuine kindness and ability to make everyone feel valued left a lasting impact on those she served.
In her personal time, Mary found pleasure in simple, heartfelt pursuits. She loved bowling with friends, losing herself in a good book, crocheting beautiful handmade gifts, assembling jigsaw puzzles, and tackling crosswords with quiet determination. These hobbies reflected her patient, creative, and contented nature.
Mary is survived by her devoted husband, Raymond; her children, Jennifer, Raymond II, and David; her grandchildren, Hannah, Finnley, and Spencer; and her siblings, James Land, Melodie Robinson, Nancy Edvalds, Marvin Land, Kathy Nodtvedt, and Jon Land. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Duane Land.
